Recycling is an important initiative at the Leduc & District Regional Waste Management Facility. The Facility has 8 main recycling initiatives:
The Material Recovery Facility also houses the Commissions innovative "Take it or Leave it" program. This designated area allows residents to drop off or pick up items that can still be put to use and keep these items from being landfilled. Check out our photo stream of some of the great things that have been dropped off in our 'Take It or Leave It Area'. The designated "Take it or Leave it" area is the only area of the landfill from which materials can be taken. Scavenging in any area of the facility is strictly prohibited.
The segregation of materials is a major intiative we have for extending the life our facility. Starting September 1, 2014, all kitchen waste will be going into a separate recycling area. Therefore, only commercial traffic will be allowed in Area 1 and residents will be directed to the Public Drop Off Area for kitchen waste disposal.
In order to maximize our recycling efforts, residents should sort their waste into the following categories:
Sorting your material in this way ahead of time will ensure your visit to our facility is convenient and efficient. We appreciate your help with our latest diversion strategy!
Resident Identification Card System is in Effect!
By implementing the Resident Identification Card system, the member municipalities of the Leduc and District Regional Waste Management Facility anticipate a reduction of abuse by non-residents of the member municipalities and hope to allow their residents continued use of the landfill for household waste without implementing facility usage fees
